August Aurora and the Spirit Tree

The northern lights have been pretty quiet this summer but last night we had a pretty good display!  This photo was made at 1:27 A.M. in Grand Portage, MN overlooking Wauswaugoning Bay on Lake Superior.

Awesome picture. I'm at the lodge and I'm looking for places up here to do some photography. If you have any suggestions I would appreciate it.

Here are the highlights: Grand Portage State Park (High Falls and Middle Falls of the Pigeon River, plus cool ridge-top overlook views of Lake Superior and the Pigeon River Valley. Grand Portage National Monument (reconstructed fur-trade fort... photo-rich environment with all the old buildings and people dressed up as Voyageurs, plus the hike up Mt. Rose yields a fantastic view of the bay). There is also a cool hike to the top of Mt. Josephine, with AMAZING views... both east and west from the top of the ridge. Last but not least Hollow Rock, which is about 3 miles south of the lodge on Highway 61. Hollow Rock is a small cabin resort, cabins are rented from the lodge. Hollow Rock is one of the most photogenic natural features you'll ever see. Have Fun!
