September Moose in Northeast Minnesota

After spending all day outside I saw a moose during the last half hour of daylight.  Always awesome to come across one.  It's never a dull moment!

Rainy day on the ridge

It's been pretty cold and wet lately, but looks like the coming week has some nicer weather returning.  I'm looking forward to it as I wasn't quite ready for the type of weather we've had the past week.  Here is photo of the Mt. Maude/Mt. Sophie ridge in Grand Portage just before some rain storms moved in.

Lily pads are so pretty as fall approaches!  I love the variation in color in this scene.

Day's End at Merganser Lake

Here is another take on the sunset from a few evenings ago at Merganser Lake.  This end of the lake is awesome.  Such a beautiful scene!

Over the years my mom has liked to coin the phrase "Everything happens for a reason".  I've certainly felt that way countless times over the years as well and yesterday was no exception.  After almost 6 hours of bike riding I ended up at this location just as the sun was going down.  

I had a loop ride all planned out and had I stuck to my route I wouldn't have been here to capture this photo.  Along my route I saw at least a half dozen side trails that intrigued me and so I took a spin down each one to check them out.  All of these little detours put me on the shoreline of this lake at just the right time to capture this glorious sunset.  If it weren't for all those little detours I would have missed it.  

Aurora Reflections and the Milky Way

My favorite photo from the weekend. Taken Friday night about 11:00 PM.  I was focused on the Milky Way and could see the northern lights (which were glowing in the sky behind me) reflecting in the back window of my Jeep, but I didn't know the photo was going to turn out so good!  Getting the meteor streaking through the sky was the icing on the cake.  One of the most fun photographs I've ever made!
