An awesome day for ship watching!

What a cool day for shipping activity on the north shore!  Today I was able to capture photos that I've always wanted to get... ships passing in front of Rock of Ages lighthouse! Thanks to the high winds of the past couple of days, the ore boats were hugging the shoreline and this morning not one, not two, but three 1,000 foot ore boats passed between Isle Royale and the Susie Islands in Grand Portage. The first to go by was the Burns Harbor, followed by the James R. Barker then the Edgar B. Speer.

Then, after work I went for a drive and was lucky enough to see two bald eagles perched over Hollow Rock Creek!  After a while I checked the marinetraffic.com website and again saw more ships headed our way. As dusk approached, the Presque Isle went by then a little while later the Great Republic cruised by in what had to be one of the distances to shore that I've seen from any of the great lakes ships. It was an awesome day!
