January Meltdown
High Falls - Grand Portage State Park
This is what the base of High Falls on the Pigeon River looked like yesterday. During the second week of January 2013 above-average temperatures in the 30 to 40 degree range meant that most of the ice on High Falls melted away. In January the waterfall should be locked in with ice but it looked more like it does during spring ice-out. After that week of warm temperatures our daily highs have dropped back down to around 15 degrees, so the ice should be starting to build back up again.
