A Peaceful Evening

Reflective Symmetry

 

A scene from a quiet evening on a local pond to start your Monday. I was so intrigued by these grass reflections that I was totally unaware of the beaver swimming around nearby until I heard him slap the surface of the water with his tail. 

Miniature Forest

This was such a cool find. Like a miniature forest of the imagination. Moss and seedlings atop a mushroom conk on the side of a birch tree. 

A peaceful spring evening

 

It doesn't get any better than this.  Beavers patrolling the lake's edge, the silence of the calm air broken only by the calls of red-winged blackbirds, a bittern, various ducks and the first spring peepers of the evening. Top it all off with awesome clouds and reflections on the surface of the lake. The recipe for a perfect spring evening in the north woods of Minnesota!

Pigeon River Beaver Lodge

 

From our canoe outing on the upper Pigeon River last weekend.  I love this river, especially the upper half of it.  So serene and peaceful and peppered with beaver lodges. Later in the season the moose are frequent visitors to the river, feeding on the vegetation that grows in the shallows. 

Mosquito Nymphs

Enjoy the mosquito-free season while you can... it's not going to last long!  Soon these pesky insects will be airborne...

Spring Beauty

Some of the prettiest things in this world come in the smallest packages.  Case in point: Spring Beauty wildflowers. These were very hard to spot but they were doing their best to poke up from beneath last autumn's fallen maple leaves.
